Kings of Convenience

yay!!! Posted by Hello

I just got back from Kings of Convenience at the Fox Theater. They were so great!! Leslie Fiest (who worked with them on the album "Riot on an Empty Street") opened for them and did a few songs with them. She was really good.

Erland Oye (right) cracks me up. He said he loves the sound of a humming crowd and a few times he stopped and talked with the audience or come down off the stage. He had us hum, snap our fingers, whistle, and sing along. They did a great cover of "When You Wish Upon a Star" and we hummed along and he had all the lights turned off. It was so fun.

Erland also asked at one point if there was anyone who voted for Bush because he really wanted to know why but was unable to find anyone. Being in Boulder, no one fessed up even if they had. He also asked the favor that everyone should watch BBC News or read an international newspaper. He watched Fox News and can see how we sometimes are paranoid and misinformed. He sleo hates that computer animated cartoon movies. And he danced around the stage and would interact with the crowd.

If you have no idea who Erland Oye or KOC is, here might be a reference. Royksopp is an electronic group and Erland Oye lend the use of his vocals for alot of their tracks including "Poor Leno" and "Remind Me". He also does solo elcetronic stuff (if you are interested you should pick up a copy of his album "Unrest"). KOC, however, is what I like to call Simon and Garfunkle from Norway but in English. It is great music. They also sometimes remind me of my beloved Sondre Lerche (also from Norway).

When KOC got to the end of their set and was going to play one more song, I got dissapointed. I was sad because they hadn't played one of my favorite songs "Toxic Girl". They strum the first few bars of the song, and I knew it. It was my song. I was SO happy. And for the encore they played another one of my favorites "I'd Rather Dance With You" (they had already played "Misread" earlier in the evening, I love that song too).

I saw a few 1190 people there including Mike Mabry (street team/DJ). I used to have a Geology class with him way back when, we became friends then but haven't really gotten to see him this year. I gave him my number and told him we should hang out sometime.

Go check out KOC if you haven't yet.

I've never quite understood this. I udnerstand fans getting into a bands music, liking it, associating with it, but the idea of haing a song that's "yours" just doesn't compute to me. When you look at a coup;le who has "their song," it's because that song either represents an important moment in the relationship or was chosen because they felt left out of not having a "their song." This, at least somewhat makes sense.

So please, for my confusion, explain where, how and why you came to the conclusion it's "your song."

You can have a "my song", it isn't just couples who have songs. In high school and even in college my group of friends has "our songs". Either was it is just an association with that song that makes you claim it as your own.

In this case however, I just ment it to indicate it was the song I was had wanted to hear and was dissapointed I hadn't yet. It was a way not to reapeat the phrase "Toxic Girl" too many times. Which I do sorta think of as my song...even though it's only sorta of, since I don't think the lyrics describe me...I dunno...

Anyway for me a "my song" is a song that has a deep connection for me like "Gay Boyfriend" or Clem Snide's cover of "Beautiful".

Oh and on that same note I have songs that I think of that remind me of people. Like "I know what boys want" makes me think of Matt, "Landslide" is Taralyn...etc. My friends have also made me listen to songs that remind them of me..."Steppie Songs"

I definitely understand associating a song with a time, place, experience, or person, but as far as a "my song," I don't really think there is a "my song" unless it was writte specifically for or about you (and some of those I certainly wouldn't want to claim).

Oh like anyone is ever going to write a song about me...please.

Anyway I supose I cannot explain it to a degree of understanding.

Hey, you never know. I wrote a really nasty song about an ex-girlfriend when she cheated on me.
