Moab: Part 1...brief note or "rash, gash, and hurt my ass".

Well I am back from the biking, hiking and climbing capital of the world, Moab, Utah. I went with my Structural Geology class. We left Thursday morning at 8am and got back Saturday night at midnight. I took tons of photos (4 rolls of film worth, unfort one roll from the first day got destroyed).

Friday we flew over Moab in a plane and got to see Canyonlands, Arches, and the Needles all from the plane. It was amazing. So pretty. I took one roll worth of pictures just from the plane.

We also went on a great but strenous hike. I didn't make it all the way to the bottom of the hike. Earlier in the hike I damage a tendon in my hand, combine that with remains of a cold, rock climbing inexperience, and not having workouted lately, I stopped. I really would like to go back and try to make it down all the way to the bottom. The hike was to the base of a HUGE salt diapear (um geology term...heck I'll post pics and then try to explain it then). Think of a giant circular crater, with super steep walls, nearly verticle at most points. I am really sore, plus I tore my legs up on brushes and twigs and stuff (stupid me for wearing shorts). I think the worst actually is I have some rash because I slammed up against some desert brush that I had a reaction to, then I scrapped my legs on the rocks. Rock burn. I love it though, battle scars.

Saturday we went into Arches and I got a few posters for my wall. Yay rocks! Speaking of which I picked up about 5 million hand samples. Most of the group hiked Delicate Arch, I've been there tons of times and I tend to hike at a moderate pace where as the group was running due to time constrait. I decided to go off on own little adventure and walked a few miles along one of the roads from the parking lot to a lookout. I saw the COOLEST plants along the way, they really looked like something from a science fiction movie. I took a photo of them. I'd like to find out what they are, and I am sure my next planetary landscape will have them included. I also took some cool photos of Petroglyphs.

After Delicate Arch, etc. our group went to go look at some faults. THE quote of the trip came as Karl (our professor) walked up to look at the faults, upon looking at the faults Karl stated "Wet fucking dream."

Other quotes:
"Paris Hilton is like a train wreck, you want to look away but you can't."
"Ew! Cosmo is so trashy!!" *keeps reading* (uttered more than once from various people in the car)
"Cinnamon, Raisins and Sunshine baby!" (*laughs* ask me and I'll explain it)
"Where are we going?" "Everyone else in the car: "No idea." (happened many times)
"Boy this trip really is 'Mr. Toad's Wild Ride'!" (Karl often calls his trip's "Mr Toad's Wild Ride" for it's crazy offroading and slight bending of rules)

So besides Moab stuff...Syndey and Anne from the Hazzards sent me an update e-mail. They are going to send me a new CD AND they are coming to town on November 20th!!! I am really excited and hopefully I can get them in the studio for an interview, record some sweepers, etc. WHOOOH! So that'll be two concerts in one week cause Sondre is on the 22nd of Nov. Exciting!

Well I am going to keep my eyes on the board and keep on keepin' it on. Oh and a Ben update, nothing new yet but I really hoping we can go on a second date this week. We'll see.
