Duty Blues

Got a chance to go to the Welcome activites on Thurs. and Friday. I won rope lights at the "Ice and Dice" night and talked for a long time with a resident from Cheyanne Arapahoe (Cliff was his name). I won like $3000 fake money bucks and I gave it to Cliff for the rope lights and since I wasn't going to stay the whole night I gave my money to him and a random girl I just walked up to, "here you look like you'd like some more money".

Friday was a blast. I got half of my residents for the Sewall connvication and then one for the Chanc. connvication. It rained quite a bit. Sean was mixing it up at the UMC for 1190. I talked to the 1190 crew for a while. Then had some dinner, went with on of the other RAs and her friend to get a free Henna tattoo, I'll have to take a pic, it's really cool. Got a picture in the "Big Chair" (I'll post it). Then I came back and just hung out with residents and such.

Yesterday was both good and bad becasue I had day and night duty. I had to plan an activity for my residents (despite the fact I was on duty). So I did tie-dye, and no one from my floor showed (most of them had an online test to take). I still did the activity but it was just me, Kevin, Saba (another RA), and one of Saba's residents. So we dyed a few things, talked alot. Kevin is a really neat guy. We were just chit chatting, he knows Sondre and Belle & Sebastian and all these other bands I like. He wanted to volunteer for 1190 but our Volunteer coordinator didn't e-mail him back. So I hooked him up with info. And get this...
he loves Harold & Maude and Amelie. Neat guy for sure. Like he said " you can definately tell how a person is if they love harold and maude". Yeah I have the feeling we are going to have movie watching and record parties already. I've been playing Halo with the boys and he plays too so I invited him to join us whenever. He came up and watched my AMVs because we started talking about anime. He really liked them.

So Nick (another RA) called me shortly after to play Halo. I am really trying to improve for the Halo tournement we are doing in Sewall, I want to kick some butt! Amanda and Jason P. came over to discuss Geology club stuff. It was hard for me to switch to Geology club gears since I have been doing this RA thing for a month solid with training and all. Not quite ready for school to start tomorrow.

Went to dinner and then Nick and I were on duty. I really really really REALLY wanted to go to the Rose Hill Drive concert. But yeah duty. If you don't know duty is basically walking the building to make sure nothing is going down and then you must remain in the builidng the entire time you are on, from 6pm-8am, you can't go to bed until your last round at midnight is finished. Therefore I was really tired and pissed this morning when I woke up an hour after my alarm went off or was supposed to go off, I never heard it. So I basically ran to the station.

Anyway Nick and I played Halo all evening. Nick killed me alot but I think I am improving (and Nick said that I am getting better). My name in Halo is "Tex" (RvsB fans will understand), so I left a note on Keith's door "Come shoot me. - Tex...btw bring another controller to the TV lounge". The other night when some guy I played Halo with before walked past me in the hall they said "Hey Tex!".

So my residents are pretty neat! They are making friends on the floor and hanging out with eachother. I like them alot. The other night some of the not so bright ones were standing in the hallway talking about alcohol two doors down from me, right after the floor meeting. Talk about a stupid move. Shane is really cool because he is trying to get people on the floor to go to dinner and stuff. Cool guy.

Well I should get back to DJing and then I am doing a campus tour today. :) Hope it goes well.
