Part 1: Same story, two versions

Shall we dance?

We recently watched both the Japanese and American versions of "Shall we dance?" The orginal Japanese version we watched first and then the American version with Richard Gere and JLo. Both movies are really good, although I think I preferred the Japanese version partly because of the fabulous Mr. Aoki. He reminded me of Chairman Kaga meets a Latin dancing robot. Hilarious.
Part 2: Bollywood strikes again
And since I made a wonderful Chicken Korma last night, we decided to watch an Indain movie.
(Note: If you use the recipe I recommend adding a handful each of almonds and golden raisins)
As all Bollywood flicks it was 3 hours long, and lots of singing, dancing and heartbreak.

Shepardess and the Hero

It is called "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" and it was really rather good. So there is a bit of cheesy wire flying and effects on the fight scenes but not many Bollywood movies have fake Candian mounties and explosions. The soundtrack is really good. Dance scenes amazing. Love story is thrilling. (After seeing "Devdas" I don't trust that every Indian movie will have a happy ending.) Science is a little weak, but I am a dork and know way too much about radioactive elements.
And that is what makes "The Hero" so good, is that is has a complex and not typical 'Boy meets girl and dances' Bollywood storyline.
Bollywood can do drama but I am still not convinced it can do horror after seeing "Gumnaam" recently. If you have seen the movie "Ghost World", you would recognize "Gumnaam" because of the Indian dance scene 'Jaan Pehechaan Ho'. The rest of "Gumnaam" is supposed to be a horror flim, or so it tries.
I do want to learn the drinking song the girls' sing.
Part 3: The Lucas machine
A few weeks ago, I saw "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith". I was sorta sad I spent the money to see THAT MUCH special effects. *gag* It was okay but it supposed to wrap up loose ends and explain everything, and that's what it does. A little too predictable. Come on people, you know he goes to the dark side because he loves her! Oh well, Hayden Christensen is pretty good looking, so I can deal.
Part 4: Umpa lumpa
The next movie I plan to see in theaters is the remake of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Johnny Depp can be scary as hell. Tim Burton IS scary as hell. Should be an interesting remake to say the least. (Note: I do love Gene Wilder, but I am really curious about the remake.)
And the Umpa Lumpas aren't orange and green in this one, what is up with that? I bet they'll be twice as creepy though...
Current Mood: Tiredness...

The new Willy Wonka I guess is based more off of the book than the first one, which is why there are differences, like the Nut Room instead of the Golden Egg laying Geese Room.
Let me know if it is any good, although it still is sick and wrong to redo that movie.... :(
