One thing I love about summer....reading. Not just reading but reading alot!
So here is my summer reading list:
What I have read:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Kite Runner (a portrait of Afgan life, want to read more by this author but his next book doesn't come out till 2006)
Both are great book that I reccommend
Currently reading:
Volcano Cowboys (can you say Geology Geek? Actually, this is the book that really got me back into becoming a Vulcanologist, so I am going for planetary vulcanologist for grad school)(danger smanger, I want to be an astronaut for crying out loud, vaccuum of space is about as deadly as lava)
Future reading:
Last Night a DJ Saved My Life (yet another book I did not get to finish last summer)
Salmon of Doubt by Douglas Adams (I've read everything else he's done, and then I plan to eventually read his colaborated works)
The Qu'ran
okay, I am not Muslim...yet. Actually I can't get my mind around the one God thing or even God exsistance (which is Iman or 'faith' and basically the first pillar of Islam "There is no God but Allah and Muhammed is the prophet.") but I do want to read the Qu'ran for a couple reasons. One, better understanding of Islam. Two, because I doubt I will ever read the Bible or the Book of Mormon, but I do want to read one major religious text. (also plan to read the Hindi bible at some point)
But I do plan to participate in the next Swam (fasting) which will be at Ramadan. I am also going to work on Ra'kat, which is a mandatory donation to charity (since I love doing volunteer work already). I think both would be good for me. I also, at some point in my life, want to do Hajj (pilgrimage) to Mecca and see the Ka'bah. And if I do Hajj, I will do it properly, participate in the actvities and wear the traditional clothing. However to step in Saudi Arabia, you have to be Muslim and get a letter from your Mosque proving it, also if you are female you must get a letter from a male family memeber, releasing you to go. The Mosque thing is a slight issue for the heathen girl.
Time's Eye (the newest Clake book...aka my favorite sci-fi author)
If you know of any books I should read, give me a hollar.
Current Mood: Tired and sore. I took a soccer ball to the gut this weekend (post about that later) and didn't notice the pain till today. Plus my elbow is little sore, I feel like such a weirdo lifting 20 lbs with one arm and 3-6 lbs with the other.
